Cartridge heaters are an extraordinarily versatile and durable product that is used to heat a myriad of different processes from heavy industrial – plastics and packaging applications to critical care medical devices and analytical test instruments to being used on aircrafts, railcars and trucks. Cartridge heaters are capable of operating at temperatures of up to 1400F and achieving watt densities of up to 260 watts per square inch. Available from stock or custom manufactured to your individual application need, they are available in many different imperial and metric diameters and lengths with many different style terminations, wattage and voltage ratings.
Cartridge heaters are an excellent choice to use as a conductive source for heating solid metal plates, blocks and dies or as a convective heat source for use in a variety of liquids and gases. Cartridge heaters can be used in a vacuum atmosphere with proper design guidelines.
Firerod Cartridge Heaters
Watlow's FIREROD cartridge heater revolutionized the heating element industry in 1954 when it was patented as the first swaged cartridge heater. The mechanical procedure of swaging reduces the diameter of the heater by compacting the unit; this directly improves the heat transfer and efficiency of the heater. FIREROD cartridge heaters are built using only the finest materials and construction methods and are backed with extensive quality assurance programs.
Multicell Insertion Heaters
Watlow's Multicell Insertion Heaters provide efficient heat dissipation and long life to meet your highest demands. The advanced design of the MULTICELL heater from Watlow offers three major advantages over other insertion heaters: extreme process temperature capability, independent zone control for precise temperature uniformity and loose fit design for easy insertion and removal.
Watt-Flex High Temperature Cartridge Heaters
Watt-Flex Cartridge Heaters have a unique spit-sheath design that reduces the cost of process heating and provides maximized heat transfer. The split-sheath design and highly specialized manufacturing techniques of the Watt-Flex cartridge heater reduce your total cost of process heating by an average of 40% over other heaters.
Swaged Cartridge Heaters (HotRods)
The engineers at Backer Marathon have developed a cartridge heater that exceeds the performance and durability of others in the industry. Through refinements in the swaging process, specially designed cores, careful selection of magnesium oxide fill, nickel chromium resistance wire, stainless steel tubing, and carefully controlled production processes, HotRods routinely outperform other cartridge heaters in difficult applications.
Non-Swaged Cartridge Heaters
Non-swaged cartridge heaters offer a cost effective solution where the performance of a swaged heater is not required. Non-swaged heaters can be used at watt densities up to 45 watts per square inch and temperatures up to 1000°F. Non-swaged heaters offer tighter length tolerances than swaged heaters. Non-swaged heaters can be built with 3 independent heat zones. Non-swaged heaters are not recommended for applications where there is a lot of vibration or impact.
Square Swaged Cartridge Heaters
Unlike square cartridge heaters from other manufacturers, our square cartridge heaters are swaged, allowing them to be used in high temperature and high watt density applications. Square heaters are ideal for milled slots in long platens where drilling a long hole would be too difficult. Square cartridge heaters are also much easier to remove from a slot after extended high temperature usage than removing a round heater from a drilled hole.
