Industrial Networking

Networking is the glue that holds many control systems together. It is the road over which we can best take advantage of the capabilities of modern-day control systems. Today, we can get any information you want from wherever it is to wherever you want it. We use a variety of technologies to develop these solutions.  Learn more below about:

  • IIoT Gateways & Data Collection
  • Remote secure routers
  • Ethernet switches
    • Managed and unmanaged
    • Wired and wireless
  • Protocol convertors
  • Media convertors
  • I/O devices

IIoT Gateways

Where PLCs excel at making decisions based on sensors and data, IIoT Gateways excel at aggregating sensor data and passing it on to other sources (i.e. computers, databases, SCADA systems, the Cloud, cellphones, etc.), with various methods (i.e. Modbus, MQTT, Ethernet TCP/IP, JSON, etc.).  The gateways may even have some logic capabilities but are generally not designed for high-speed machine or process control like PLCs are.  Other products specialize in collecting data as modern flavors of the more traditional data loggers.  Learn more on our Data Collection page.

Remote Secure Routers

Remote Secure Routers
Remote secure routers are specifically designed for industrial use. They enable a secure and reliable VPN connection between your machine and you…or anybody you want to give access to.  This means your machine can be anywhere in the world and so can you and your support!

Using the same technology that virtual conferencing software uses, access to the Internet is made either through your corporate network’s Port 80 via either WiFi or ethernet, or through a cellular connection completely independent of your corporation’s network.  On the LAN side of the router you may access PLCs, HMIs, webcams, etc. through a secure portal account just as you would access your virtual conferencing software account.  You choose who sees components in the field and who has access.  Full client control is at your finger-tips.  We offer a centralized system for universal access to control systems, panels, drives and controllers from different manufacturers.  Have a favorite technician at a manufacturer?  Allow them temporary access to do the work for you securely.

Firewall & NAT Gateways

Firewall & NAT Gateways
Firewalls offer protection against attacks by monitoring the incoming and outgoing communication and allowing or blocking certain communication based upon its security rules.  The industrial firewall for the automation engineer offers further protection by making further network segmentation easy and manageable.  IP address management also becomes easier with the NAT capability that isolates the IP address of the machines to avoid conflicts with other ones installed nearby that have the same IP addresses.

Managed Ethernet Switches

Advantech's managed Ethernet switches allow users to expand their industrial network quickly and efficiently, while their rugged industrial-grade design assures reliability and stability. Our managed Ethernet switches provide fast Ethernet and gigabit combo ports as well as numerous network protocols, such as SNMP, PROFINET, and Ethernet/IP, thus assisting in achieving critical communication interoperability for industrial IoT applications. Moreover, Advantech’s managed Ethernet switches utilize X-Ring technology to minimize system downtime, offering less than 20 ms recovery times to further ensure network reliability and transmission speed, making them the ideal solution for various network deployments.

Unmanaged Ethernet Switches

Unmanaged Ethernet Switches
With no setup required, Advantech’s unmanaged Ethernet switches are truly plug-and-play. These unmanaged Ethernet switches are designed for use in demanding industrial environments, offering unmatched performance, reliability, and value. All ports are equipped with memory buffers and the store-and-forward mechanism to assure that data can be safely transmitted. Models of unmanaged Ethernet switches are available in standard 10/100Mbps and gigabit 10/100/1000Mbps speeds, with both copper wire and fiber optic connections. As for system safety and stableness, we strengthen our unmanaged Ethernet switches with power polarity reverse protection and overload current resettable fuse functionality to give users a seamless and stable connection experience.

Protocol Convertors

Advantech extended their protocol gateway product line with the introduction of two new EKI-1221IEIMB & EKI-1221PNMB Protocol Gateway Series for protocol conversion. These new protocol gateway devices support protocol conversion from Modbus TCP to EtherNet/IP, and Modbus TCP to PROFINET. They provide a cost-effective solution and enable seamless connection between different devices with different protocols, and also provide a high level of device management efficiency.

Media Converters

Advantech's Industrial Ethernet Media Converters are compact and robust devices designed to convert Gigabit Ethernet or Fast Ethernet networks into Gigabit or Ethernet fiber optic networks by transparently converting digital electric Ethernet signals to optical signals. Our Media Converters are also designed to provide internal jumpers for Link Fault Pass-through (LFP) setting. With sophisticated industrial technology, Advantech ensures the reliability of Ethernet media converters for any gigabit Ethernet and fast Ethernet solutions, ideal for fiber-to-building applications at central offices or local sites.
