Process Control Team

March 2023

Portland, OR and Livermore, CA
The Process Control team comprised of Casin, Peter, Dave (back row), Kody, Terri, Ruby (front row) and Rick (below) support millions of dollars worth of valve actuation and instrumentation business. This requires rifle focus in production management from inquiry to an invoice at all touch points. What makes this product category different from others at Valin is the nature of the projects, where a quote does not contain a single item, part number, or price. Each order quote is a 2-3 week long process qualifying the customer’s project and engineering requirements. This process does not include the required pre-sales bidding documentation. These opportunities are known as complex orders and this team knows and understands them well. Below is a list of pre-sale documents typically required to quote a complex order, the majority of which is usually handled by Peter and Rick.
Pre-Sale Documents:
  1. Initial Request for Quote (RFQ)
  2. Individual Component Cut Sheets (Valve, actuator, solenoid, limit switch, filter regulator, etc.)
  3. Instructions to Bidder (Signed and Stamped)
  4. Supplier / Contractor Document and Data Commitment (SDDC) Form (Includes 29 submittals)
  5. Bidders Response Summary Rev. 1
  6. Sellers Contract Details and Signed Copy of Acceptance
  7. RFQ Bidder Response Freight Estimate Data
  8. End-User MSA (If Applicable)
  9. W-9
  10. Engineered Drawings, Data sheets, Cut Sheets at ARO (After Receipt of Order)
  11. Certificate of Insurance (COI)
Once the pre-sale documents and engineering requirements are met and the order has been secured, the real work begins, as cited by the Process Control Team. Below is a list of the after sales documentation required for each complex order.

The Process Control Team supports a well-greased machine related to production management in the Portland location. Dave works with Kody to prioritize and plan critical production assemblies in coordination with Ruby and Casin. Material shortages and expedites are identified and prioritized for purchasing by Terri, and supplier management is escalated by Dave.

As the Refineries and Pulp & Paper markets recovered in 2022, a swarm of projects appeared throughout the year, requiring detailed order management. Many notable projects came from large customers who were severely impacted by the supply chain delays in 2022 and required follow-up and escalations with Valin’s supplier partners. Most recently, the Process Control team delivered when asked to meet the March monthly ship goal for Industrial-Process Control. Many of the team braved the severe weather conditions and traveled to the office to ensure that critical builds would ship. This example is the norm and not the exception, as many of the team are physically in the office or are logged into their computers well before 8 am to keep the valve business segment fully operational.

Lastly, the team goes above the call of duty by acting as an extension of the Sales Team. They recently secured a substantial order from a large solar power company requesting 75 1-inch, 2-inch, and 3-inch valves, marking a new booking for a long-standing Valin customer that increased their sales volume in 2022. Dave, Peter, and Rick consistently overperform in their roles to identify new opportunities and close each business transaction, both with and without sales team support. The team continues to operate through turn over in significant roles like customer service and engineering.
