Norman Hall

September 2019

Business Unit Manager - Filtration
San Jose, CA
Over the last year, Norman Hall took on a role that was completely foreign to him. He was tasked with developing and moving multiple facilities throughout the Valin organization.

His first task was to move the facility located in Tomball, Texas to Houston, Texas. This was a great learning experience for him. He oversaw the entire facility build-out of a brand-new location. The move of Valin personnel, including warehouse, engineering, and production met with little interruption to their work and delivery to our customers. As the Texas move settled, Norman was then tasked with moving the Portland, Oregon office due to the sale of the fluid power group. As Portland neared completion he began work on two additional facility moves. He managed the move of the corporate office in San Jose, California to a new location. At the same time, he handled the build-out and move to a brand-new building and location for the Chandler, Arizona office and warehouse.

Norman was responsible for the following:
  • Building work plans with multiple property management personnel, real estate professionals, engineers, contractors, and inspectors.

  • Learning the rules and regulations for permitting of four different states - Texas, Oregon, California, and Arizona.

  • Helping manage the transition of Valin’s production of filters from Arizona to Indiana.

  • Working with the Valin executive team to select materials, furniture, tile, flooring, and other necessary items for the build-out of each facility.

  • Communicating and coordinating changes and suggestions between the Valin team and contractors and engineers.

  • Working with operations and engineering teams to ensure that facility layouts were set-up to optimize workflow.

  • Making sure all personnel had the tools to continue their jobs in the transition without disruption.

These are just a few examples of the work Norman was responsible for during these projects. The tasks were all executed on an extremely tight schedule with very little delays and issues. In addition, he continued to manage his normal job responsibilities efficiently and took on other projects like managing the consolidation of Clearwater Technologies and Dale Foster Sales into Valin.

Even though he had no experience with facility projects on a corporate level, he met the difficult deadlines while keeping costs down and controlling budgets. He was able to ensure the projects continually moved forward in a timely manner and that all obstacles were removed. He stepped up without hesitation and proved that he can perform above and beyond what is asked of him and has shown great dedication to his performance. All the work and dedication are a great value to Valin and its employees who moved into the new facilities and will be working there for the next several years.
