When industrial processes require dependable flow control under demanding conditions, the ASCO™ 290 Series (also known as 8290) Angle Body Multi-Purpose Valves provide a proven solution. Designed with an angle-body configuration that promotes efficient media flow, these valves combine high flow capacity with reliable shutoff, making them an excellent choice for steam, hot water, compressed air, water, light oils, inert gases, and other compatible fluids.
Available in both bronze and stainless steel body materials, the 290 Series is built for facilities that demand long service life and dependable performance. The straight-through flow path helps minimize pressure loss while supporting faster system response and improved efficiency compared to many conventional globe-style valves.
With multiple actuation methods, normally open and normally closed configurations, numerous connection sizes, and application-specific options, the 290 Series gives engineers the flexibility to standardize on a valve family that can serve many different systems throughout a plant.

Models
290 Series Angle Body Multi-Purpose Valve Product Family Models
The 290 Series includes several valve configurations that allow engineers to select the actuation method best suited for their application while maintaining consistent valve performance.
290 Series, Pneumatic (Air-Operated) Valves
These pressure-operated piston valves are ideal where compressed air is readily available. They provide dependable operation for general industrial service, steam systems, and automated process equipment.
The 290 Series consists of 2-way direct-acting valves available in normally closed or normally open constructions. They come in a straight-through body design made of bronze or stainless steel. There are many optional features, including a visual/ electrical position indicator or a stroke limiter.
Best suited for:
- High-cycle applications
- Steam service
- Utility systems
- Large process lines
290 Series, Motorized Valves
Motorized versions are designed for applications requiring smooth electrical operation with high flow capacity. Their design helps reduce water hammer while providing reliable control of water, steam, and compatible fluids. Features such as position indication and fluid isolation between the actuator and valve body enhance operational reliability.
Common applications include:
- Sterilization equipment
- Water treatment
- Industrial heating
- Cooling systems
- Food processing
- Car wash equipment
290 Series with Digital Positioner
The valve is operated by the Digital Positioner depending on the setpoint and feedback. The valve and the actuator are NC-type. It closes when no pilot pressure is supplied by the Digital Positioner to the actuator. The valve opens when the Digital Positioner supplies a pilot pressure. On loss of power, the valve returns to its closed position, or the position is maintained depending on the version.
209 Series with Digital Positioner Features:
- Precise, quick-acting, and robust valve suitable for use in outside industrial environments
- Exceptional long service life
- Real-time control
- Ready-to-use valve
- The Digital Positioner can be directly connected to an external sensor (double loop control)
- Power saving function and no air consumption when the position is reached
- Manual valve operator
- LED indicators for valve status display
- IO-Link class A communication protocol for setpoint, feedback, and parameter data
290 Series Proportional Valves with Positioner
The 290 Series is offered with variable flow proportional to the control signal (open loop) and offers a Position feedback signal for optimal flow control.
290 Series Proportional Valves with Positioner Features:
- Variable flow proportional to the control signal (open loop)
- Closed-loop control via external process sensor
- Fail-safe construction: Valve closes upon loss of power
- Supplied factory-assembled
- LED indicators for valve status display
- Manual opening and closing function
- Position feedback signal for optimal flow control
314 and 356 Series to Pilot the 290 Pneumatic Operated Valves
314 and 356 Series Solenoid Pilot Valves:
- Compact design and low weight enable easy installation on all series 290 and 390 valves with 90 and 125 mm operators
- Manual operator allows easy installation (314 Series)
- Pilot 356: AC/DC interchangeability of the solenoid without disassembly of the valve
- Compliance with UL and CSA standards (pilot valve 356 Series coupling)
- UL429 and EN 60335 certified
- The 314 Series pilot solenoid valves satisfy all relevant EU Directives
- The 356 Series pilot solenoid valves satisfy all relevant EU and EAC directives
