ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor from UE Precision Sensors

UE Precision Sensors Echolocity Velocity Sensor with Pitot TubesPrecision Sensors’ Echolocity® Velocity Sensor monitors exhaust velocities in Semi Fabs and processes, allowing users to optimize flow rates to reduce operating costs, increase production yields, and improve safety.

Precision Sensors is offering the proven Echoline® Low Differential Pressure sensor with a Pitot Tube Assembly for air velocity measurements. When installed into the ductwork, the pitot tube allows the Echoline® sensor to measure static and pitot pressures within the duct. Velocities can then be calculated using the pressure measurements and Bernoulli’s Principle.

Benefits

ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor Benefits and Differentiators

Precision Flow Velocity Measurement Without Intrusion

The ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor is a non-invasive ultrasonic sensing solution designed to measure flow velocity in critical process environments accurately. Using high-frequency acoustic signals, the sensor evaluates flow behavior without requiring direct contact with the media—helping reduce contamination risk and maintenance requirements.

Unlike traditional mechanical flow devices, ultrasonic velocity sensing eliminates moving parts, increasing long-term reliability and minimizing wear. This makes it ideal for applications where uptime, cleanliness, and precision are essential.

Key Benefits

  • Non-contact measurement protects sensitive processes
  • No moving components for improved durability
  • High accuracy across a wide range of flow conditions
  • Suitable for harsh, high-purity, or corrosive environments

Ultrasonic sensors operate by transmitting sound waves and analyzing the returning signal, enabling precise measurement even in challenging conditions where optical or mechanical devices may fail.

Why Choose the ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor?

  1. Non-Intrusive Measurement  Eliminates the need to penetrate piping or systems—reducing leak points and simplifying installation.
  2. Designed for High-Purity Environments  Ideal for semiconductor and clean-process applications where contamination control is critical.
  3. Low Maintenance, High Reliability  No moving parts means less wear, fewer failures, and reduced lifecycle costs.
  4. Fast, Real-Time Data Output  Supports responsive control systems with immediate flow insights.
  5. Easy Integration  Compatible with modern automation platforms (PLC, SCADA, DCS), enabling seamless deployment into existing systems.

How It Works

ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor Technology

Advanced Ultrasonic Echolocation for Flow Velocity

The ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor uses ultrasonic echolocation principles to determine flow velocity. It emits high-frequency sound waves into the process stream and measures changes in the returning signal caused by fluid movement.

Because sound travels at a known speed, the system can calculate velocity based on how the signal shifts when interacting with moving media. This method enables accurate, repeatable measurements without interrupting the process.

Why Ultrasonic Technology Stands Out

  • Works independently of fluid color, transparency, or conductivity
  • Performs reliably in low-light, high-noise, or particulate-heavy environments
  • Provides fast response times for real-time monitoring
  • Maintains accuracy without direct exposure to the process media

Ultrasonic sensing is widely used in industrial automation because it delivers consistent results in environments where other sensing technologies struggle.

Applications

ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor Applications

The ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor is engineered for industries that require precise monitoring and strict process control.

Common applications include:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing – Ensures stable gas and fluid delivery
  • High-purity process systems – Prevents contamination in sensitive environments
  • Chemical processing – Monitors flow in corrosive or hazardous media
  • Energy & utilities – Tracks flow performance in critical infrastructure
  • Industrial automation – Enables real-time process optimization

Because the sensor does not require direct contact, it is especially valuable in applications involving aggressive chemicals, ultra-clean systems, or hard-to-access installations.

ECHOLOCITY® Velocity Sensor Q & A

+What is a velocity sensor, and how is it different from a flow meter?
A velocity sensor measures the speed of fluid movement, while a flow meter calculates total flow volume. Velocity sensors like the ECHOLOCITY® are often used when precise flow behavior or changes in velocity are more important than totalized flow.

+Can the ECHOLOCITY® sensor handle harsh or corrosive environments?
Yes. Because it uses non-contact ultrasonic technology, it avoids direct exposure to aggressive chemicals, making it ideal for corrosive or high-purity applications.
+How accurate is ultrasonic velocity measurement?
Ultrasonic sensors provide highly accurate and repeatable measurements, often within tight tolerances, because they rely on sound wave timing rather than mechanical movement.

+Is installation complicated?
No. These sensors are typically easier to install than intrusive devices since they do not require cutting into piping or shutting down processes for extended periods.

+What industries benefit most from velocity sensors like ECHOLOCITY®?

Industries with strict process control requirements—such as semiconductor manufacturing, chemical processing, and high-purity systems—gain the most value due to the sensor’s precision and non-invasive design.
