SL17 Submersible Pressure Transmitter Q & A

+ What is the Ashcroft SL17 Submersible Pressure Transmitter used for?
The Ashcroft SL17 Submersible Pressure Transmitter is designed for precise pressure and level measurement in submerged applications. Its compact 17mm diameter makes it ideal for narrow bore installations, such as groundwater monitoring, well level measurement, tank level monitoring, and wastewater management. Common uses include aquifer monitoring, pump protection, and environmental remediation.

+ Is the SL17 Submersible Pressure Transmitter suitable for harsh or hazardous environments?
Yes, the SL17 is built with a 316L stainless steel housing and rated IP68/NEMA 6P, making it resistant to water, dust, and other harsh conditions. It is ideal for submersion in groundwater, wastewater, and environmental monitoring applications. Optional accessories, like surge protectors and termination boxes, further protect the transmitter in outdoor or electrically noisy environments. The robust design ensures reliable readings even in corrosive or challenging industrial settings.
+ What maintenance is required for the SL17 Submersible Pressure Transmitter?
The SL17 Submersible Pressure Transmitter is designed for minimal maintenance, but periodic checks help ensure long-term accuracy and reliability. Inspect the cable and vent tube for damage or moisture intrusion. Check for corrosion or buildup on the sensor housing. Replace desiccant filters in the termination box as needed. Verify calibration annually or according to your facility’s requirements. Regular maintenance helps prevent drift in readings and extends the transmitter’s service life.

+ How do I install the SL17 Submersible Pressure Transmitter?
Installation involves lowering the transmitter into the desired location, ensuring the cable is properly secured and protected. The SL17 is equipped with a vent tube inside the cable jacket to allow for pressure equalization inside and outside the sensor body, which is crucial for accurate readings. For optimal performance, it's recommended to use accessories like termination boxes to prevent moisture ingress and surge protectors to safeguard against electrical spikes.

+ What accessories are available for the SL17 transmitter?

Ashcroft offers several accessories to enhance the SL17's performance and durability:

  • Termination Box: Prevents moisture ingress into the vent tube, ensuring accurate pressure readings
  • Surge Protector: Protects the transmitter from electrical surges, especially in outdoor applications
  • Desiccant Filters: Absorb moisture within the termination box to maintain sensor accuracy
