Gary Brenny

Gary Brenny was awarded the Monsen Innovation award for his continuous contributions to the company. Gary combines his deep understanding of Valin, its systems, and their customers with his high-level skills to solve and automate processes to help the business be more efficient and effective. Gary Brenny is often asked to help with high-level tasks because of his many years with Valin and his intimate understanding of the business. His recent contributions are no exception. Gary’s valuable knowledge and insight were used in assisting with order entry into P21 for a prominent customer. He first acquired a deep knowledge and understanding of the customer’s portals used to receive orders and validate payments. Gary examined and studied the complete lifecycle of an order and created processes to extract orders from the customer’s portal and confirm they were entered quickly and accurately. Within the process, he developed checks and balances to ensure each order was not duplicated or missed and that each aligned within the system, so payment for each order was applied in an automated fashion. He also incorporated an alert to let Customer Service know if Valin could not meet the customer’s delivery dates based on current lead times from the suppliers. The improved processes will save customer service, purchasing, and accounting several hours a week.

Gary has done incredible work transforming the Automation of Orders using digital technologies. With the help of the IT department, he used Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to ascertain that customer orders get entered correctly and on time. Gary had great ideas about importing orders directly into P21 and was confident in its success. He identified what was needed and found creative ways to ensure order information was entered automatically. Gary pinpointed the steps for automating orders by working through the process for one of Valin’s largest OEM customers. He built upon the knowledge he gained from the customer and rapidly deployed it to other customers. It has been a long journey, but it is now paying dividends. Orders can now enter through the system and flow seamlessly with little human intervention. It is truly a work of art.

The framework and templates created can be replicated and used with other customers. Automating tasks to enter orders reduces manual effort within the organization. Employees can focus on more value-added tasks and increase interaction with customers and suppliers.

The Monsen Innovation award recipients are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and dedication to our company.  The inspiration for this award (and the first award recipient) was Jon Monsen. Jon F. Monsen, Ph.D., P.E., was a control valve technology specialist at Valin for many years. Jon wrote a book titled, Control Valve Application Technology, Techniques and considerations for properly selecting the right control valve. This book was published by Valin and is currently sold on our ecommerce site. Monsen possessed 35 years of industry experience and lectured nationally and internationally on control valve sizing and application.
