Len Kelley has been selling electric heat for 52 years. He moved from Pittsburgh, PA to Salt Lake City, UT with his wife in 1960 to start a supplier rep agency called Triune Electric. Triune Electric was Valin’s second acquisition and joined the family in 2002.

In 2018, Len sold over $600,000 of heaters to a power plant. This was all possible due to Len’s deep product knowledge. The customer called and discussed the application with Len. They were impressed with his knowledge and thorough manner of explaining his way through the application. The solution ended up being a series of air heaters so esoteric that the factory had not built one for over 10 years. This was a challenging order, requiring significant communication and timing receipt of product. Len did a great job and the customer was so pleased that after receiving the product the main commercial contact for this order sent the following email.

Just wanted to let you know that we received (6) 150kW heaters last week and the remaining (4) 150kW heaters yesterday. The timing was perfect as both units are scheduled to go offline within the next week and winter has yet to subside.

Len has been a tremendous coach and fountain of knowledge for everyone on the Process Heat team. He has trained several employees like customer service representatives, regional sales managers, and technical specialists. Len has earned the nickname of “Mr. Heat” by many of the local Utah customers who have known him for literally decades and to this day when advanced heating applications are discussed Len’s calming voice of wisdom helps us arrive at the best solution.

Len has been handling a supplier line of air heaters since he began Triune Electric. At one point, the regional sales manager of the line met with Len and asked if he would expand his sales territory. Len tried to decline not only the additional territory but the entire line. The supplier needed his help so much that they ended up providing a deeper discount than originally planned and told him that he did not need to expand his geography. Len has also impressed other key heat suppliers with his knowledge and Valin’s credibility in the process heat world has been heightened as a result.
