Customer Pillar: Gone above and beyond to assist customer
Paul Lyman (right) was instrumental in supporting a customer in their time of need and procuring additional sales simply by “being there.” One of Valin’s strategic semiconductor customers located in Austin, TX had an internal fire at their fabrication facility that destroyed their primary Clean Dry Air (CDA) line in Mid-September. Paul was in Dallas at the time. After receiving numerous calls for immediate assistance, he determined it was important to cancel his Friday appointments and left at 4 AM to drive to Austin to meet with the customer face to face. The entire facility was shut down, and every department was doing what was necessary to get their systems back online and into production. Paul worked closely with his on-site contacts through the weekend, into the week, and into the following weekend by assisting the customer with specifying replacement components and offering his support where and when needed.

During the 10-day period that Paul was on-site he was able to secure significant new business for Valin to source approximately $225,000 in purchase orders displacing a competing filter the customer had in place. He was also able to get another major manufacturer’s components approved for numerous lines, secure orders for the parts, as well as have the customer stock 509 pieces of ½ inch face seal gaskets that are needed because the CDA sticks require the gasket. Paul continues to work with the customer to replace other destroyed components.

Paul exclusively supported the semiconductor customer in its time of crisis. His dedication to going well beyond the “extra mile” by giving his time, has elevated him and Valin in the customer’s eyes and will be remembered by the customer long after their business returns to normal operations.
