Disney Donates Excess Food While Its Parks Are Shut Down

During these uncertain times it's important to share the positive things that are going on in our world.  Last week Disney announced that it would be temporarily closing all of its theme parks in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. The Disneyland and Disney World resorts will be donating all of their excess food to local food banks.

Disneyland confirmed on its park blog that it would be donating all excess food inventory from Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park during the closure to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Shortly after that announcement, Walt Disney World followed suit, announcing that it would be donating excess foods like "fresh salads, greens and expertly cooked hot items" to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

The parks already have existing partnerships with the food banks, in which they donate prepared, unserved food to those who need it. Last year, according to that statement, the Disneyland parks donated 20,000 meals via that program. Disney World said it donated 1 million meals last year via its program.

“Second Harvest Food Bank is known for their vital work addressing critical food needs in Central Florida, and we know the important role we play in helping to bring meaningful solutions to our community in times of great need.” said director of External Affairs at Walt Disney World Resort Tajiana Ancora-Brown said in a statement.

The parks are scheduled to be closed through the end of March, and though it's sad to see them temporarily shuttered, at least fans can rest easy that all that delicious food is not going to waste.
